Even though its big reveal had chalked out January 21 during its big re-reveal at Summer Games Fest, Elden Ring is no longer going to hit that release date. The highly anticipated FromSoftware RPG is now coming out on February 25, 2022 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The official Elden Ring Twitter account tweeted the news, citing the game’s scope as the reason. Its “depth and strategic freedom” seemed to have “exceed [its] initial expectations,” as stated by the tweet. FromSoftware had previously spoken about the game’s open-world nature as it will let players freely explore its six main areas, which will contain their own secrets and skills.

There will, however, be a closed network test in November. Players can sign up on the game’s website and enlist on any of the five consoles. There will be certain sessions, but the first one begins on November 12 and the last one starts on November 14. While it will contain a bit of the game, this is more to test the game’s servers prior to launch.

The new Elden Ring release date falls inside of a crowded month. The game is coming three weeks after Dying Light 2, one week after Horizon Forbidden West, and the same day as the newly announced Saints Row reboot. Four open-world games in three weeks makes for quite a packed month that doesn’t even begin to consider the month’s other releases like Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, Life is Strange Remastered Collection, King of Fighters XV, Evil Dead: The Game, and Sifu.
