During Gamescom Opening Night Live’s presentation, Gearbox Software shocked fans by revealing a Borderlands 4 trailer, confirming a new entry in the popular looter shooter.
What happened in the Borderlands 4 trailer?
The trailer for the new game didn’t show off too much, but did open with the Firehawk symbol appearing in space before a planet was transported into view. A meteor was then seen crashing into the ground, and a robotic arm picked up a mask worn by the game’s “psycho” characters.

Currently, nothing else is known about Borderlands 4. The trailer sets a release date for sometime in 2025, however, so fans should expect to see more sooner rather than later. Prior to Borderlands 4, the last entry in the FPS/RPG series was 2019’s Borderlands 3, which released for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
The Borderlands series began back in 2009 with the game’s first release, and has since been heralded as one of the first successful “looter shooter” games. The game is also well-known for its eccentric style and chaotic characters, including the popular Tiny Tina, who received her own spinoff game in 2022.
Outside of video games, the Borderlands franchise has also branched out into other media. Just this past month, a movie based on the game premiered in theaters. That film starred Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edgar Ramirez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
