Cinderella’s Revenge Trailer Teases Bloody Reimagining of the Beloved Tale

Reimagining beloved childhood characters in a much darker light has become a trend following last year’s Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. With more announcements about legacy characters getting the horror treatment, a new trailer for Cinderella’s Revenge has been unveiled, highlighting the bloody and vengeful twist on the classic fairytale.

Set to premiere on April 26, the upcoming movie will see Cinderella being pushed to her limit by her evil stepmother and stepsisters. As a result, Cinderella will enlist the help of her Fairy Godmother to plan her bloody revenge. In addition to the trailer, Entertainment Weekly has also released new set of images, which teases what could happen when the three villains push the kind Cinderella too far.

“Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters and stepmother push her too far, leading her to swap her glass slippers in pursuit of blood-soaked vengeance with the help of her Fairy Godmother,” the logline reads.

Director Andy Edwards revealed (via EW) that he wanted to turn the tables and play on the idea of Cinderella exacting revenge on her wicked stepmother and two stepsisters, who, as many people know, has always treated her poorly.

“We have Cinderella, we have the evil stepmother, we have the two evil sisters, and they treat her pretty badly. But there’s a few twists in it and a few surprises. There’s sex and violence, as well, which you might not expect. So something for everyone,” said Edwards.

He added, “The idea is that Cinderella is this innocent person, so the mask is a way of her turning to the dark side. Cinderella’s revenge in the fairytale is by being successful and marrying the prince, but in this there’s proper physical, violent revenge.”

Who will star in Cinderella’s Revenge?

Written by Tom Jolliffe, the film stars Lauren Staerck (Curse of Jack Frost) as Cinderella and Natasha Henstridge (Maximum Risk) as Fairy Godmother. The rest of the cast includes Stephanie Lodge, Beatrice Fletcher, Megan Purvis, Ricardo Freitas, Stephen Staley, Mike Kelson, William Marshall, Peter Watson, Zach Devereux, and Darrell Griggs.

Cinderella’s Revenge is just an addition to the growing list of upcoming movies putting a gory twist on classic tales, including Bambi: The Reckoning, Mickey’s Mouse Trap, and a second Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey movie
