Per Deadline, Solo: A Star Wars Story star Alden Ehrenreich has been tapped to join the Weapons cast for New Line Cinema‘s upcoming horror movie.
Ehrenreich will be joining previously announced cast members Julia Garner (Ozark) and Josh Brolin (Dune: Part Two). This marks Ehrenreich’s first major project since his leading turn in Chloe Domont‘s erotic thriller Fair Play, which hit Netflix last September. He also starred as a senate aide in Christopher Nolan‘s blockbuster Oppenheimer.
Besides Weapons, he is expected to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe after being cast for one of the lead roles in the long-delayed Disney+ series Ironheart.
Who’s involved in Weapons?
Weapons will be written and directed by Zach Cregger, who’s best known for 2022’s Barbarian, which served as his feature directorial debut. Further details about its story and characters are still being kept under wraps, but it is being described as “an interrelated, multistory horror epic” that is tonally being likened to Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 film Magnolia. It is produced by Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules.
Before Brolin’s casting, Pedro Pascal was originally going to lead the project. However, due to last year’s strikes, its scheduled production was ultimately delayed which led to scheduling conflicts with Pascal’s other high-profile projects such as The Fantastic Four and The Last of Us Season 2. At the moment, the film currently has no release date or official synopsis yet.
