According to Deadline, Grace & Frankie alum June Diane Raphael has officially been tapped to join the Weapons cast for New Line Cinema’s newest horror thriller, which hails from Barbarian director Zach Cregger.
Raphael will be joining previously announced cast members Josh Brolin (Deadpool 2), Julia Garner (Ozark), Alden Ehrenreich (Oppenheimer), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Amy Madigan (Twice in a Lifetime), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives). At the time of writing, character descriptions for their roles remained undisclosed.
This marks Raphael’s first venture into the horror genre. She’s best known for her appearances in comedy movies like Bride Wars, Year One, Blockers, and Long Shot. Last March, it was announced that she had signed on for her first major TV project as the lead in a multi-cam comedy series Something Wicked, which is inspired by the classic sitcom Bewitched.
Josh Brolin Replaces Pedro Pascal in Weapons
Before Brolin’s casting, Pedro Pascal was originally going to lead the project. However, due to last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, its scheduled production was ultimately delayed which led to scheduling conflicts with Pascal’s other high-profile projects such as The Fantastic Four and The Last of Us Season 2.
Weapons is written and directed by Zach Cregger. Further details about its story and characters are still being kept under wraps, but it is being described as “an interrelated, multistory horror epic” that is tonally being likened to Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 film Magnolia. It is produced by Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules.
The film arrives in theaters on January 16, 2026.
