Ozark actor Julia Garner will join Josh Brolin on Zach Cregger’s Weapons, the follow-up to the horror hit Barbarian.
Garner, recently cast as The Silver Surfer in the Fantastic Four movie (which also stars former Weapons lead Pedro Pascal), will play a part in the interrelated multistory horror movie that is reported to be in the same tonal vein as Paul Thomas Anderson’s superb 1999 movie Magnolia.
Julia Garner is in demand right now, with the aforementioned Fantastic Four gig just the tip of the iceberg. Garner also has the psychological thriller Apartment 7A and Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man movie on the books.
Weapons reunites the team behind surprise horror hit Barbarian, and was originally due to begin shooting last year until strikes derailed that. Another consequence was that Pedro Pascal had to exit the film due to his role as Reed Richards in Fantastic Four. Josh Brolin subsequently replaced him.
What Came Before Weapons?
Zach Cregger‘s previous film, Barbarian, took $45 million in on a budget of $4.5 million and was met with considerable praise from critics and moviegoers alike.
“Traveling to Detroit for a job interview, a young woman books a rental home,” reads Barbarian’s synopsis. “But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the evening but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.”
