Rumours, an upcoming comedy feature from directors Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson, has unveiled its first look, showing a gigantic brain that is possibly crucial to the story that will be led by Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander.
Described as a “stoopid and hilarious and wonderful” movie by Midsommar director Ari Aster, Rumours boasts an ensemble cast including Roy Dupuis (Shake Hands with the Devil), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Denis Ménochet (The Beasts), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Avenue 5), Rolando Ravello (Three Perfect Daughters), Takehiro Hira (Shōgun), and Zlatko Burić (Triangle of Sadness).

An established actress, Blanchett is famously known for her appearances in Elizabeth, The Aviator, Blue Jasmine, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Carol, Babel, Thor: Ragnarok, Nightmare Alley, and Tár.
On the other hand, Vikander is best known for starring in Ex Machina and The Danish Girl. She most recently starred in Karim Aïnouz’s Firebrand, playing the Katherine Parr role. Her other film credits include The Glorias, The Green Knight, and Blue Bayou.
Maddin wrote and directed Rumours with longtime film collaborators Galen and Evan Johnson. The trio most recently collaborated on 2017’s The Green Fog.
Rumours hails from Aster and Lars Knudsen’s Square Peg, with Elevation Pictures releasing the film in Canada. Meanwhile, Bleecker Street is releasing the film in the U.S.
What is Rumours about?
Little is still known about what the project will entail, but the film will be centered on the annual G7 summit, following seven leaders from the world’s richest liberal democracies as they get lost in the woods while attempting to put together an interim statement on a global crisis.
No release date has been set yet for Rumours, but Bleecker Street is reportedly planning a 2024 theatrical release.
