Zach Cregger’s new movie, Weapons, is set to begin shooting in February 2024, World of Reel reported Friday morning. The shoot will run through mid-April 2024. No release date has been announced, though a Fall 2024 premiere could be possible.
What to Expect in Weapons?
Weapons will be written and directed by Cregger. Plot details remain under wraps, but Weapons’ has been described as “an interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.” World of Reel’s report states the film involves “witchcraft and missing children” and could be a three-hour movie due to a “very thick” screenplay.
Pedro Pascal and Renate Reinsve will headline the cast of Weapons. In July 2023, Daniel Richtman reported Brian Tyree Henry, Tom Burke, Austin Abrams, and June Diane Raphael were joining the cast. It is unknown if any actors have dropped out due to the delays from the strikes.
After a heated bidding war, New Line Cinema won the rights to Weapons in a deal worth an estimated eight figures. Cregger will produce with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon for Vertigo Entertainment alongside J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of Boulderlight Productions. Weapons will receive an exclusive theatrical release.
Weapons marks Cregger’s first project after the success of Barbarian. Cregger’s 2022 horror film was met with critical acclaim and grossed $45 million on a rumored budget of $4.5 million.
