With production wrapped on Death of a Unicorne starring Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd, A24 has announced the addition of seven cast members.
Death of a Unicorne’s ensemble includes Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Téa Leoni (Spanglish), Will Poulter (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), Sunita Mani (Glow), Jessica Hynes (Paddington 2), and Stephen Park (Asteroid City).
What to expect in Death of a Unicorne?
A24’s official synopsis reads: “A father (Rudd) and daughter (Ortega) accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss (Grant) seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties.”
Death of a Unicorne marks the directorial debut of Alex Scharfman, who also wrote the script. Scharfman is best known for producing Blow the Man Down and Resurrection. Scharfman, Drew Houpt, and Lucas Joaquin will produce for Secret Engine. Additional producers include Tyler Campellone and Lars Knudsen of Square Peg, along with Tim Headington and Theresa Steele Page of Ley Line Entertainment.
Ortega and Rudd will executive produce alongside Ari Aster, David Darby, Jacob Epstein, Nate Kamiya, and Michael Williams.
John Carpenter, the legendary director behind Halloween and The Thing, will compose the music alongside son Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Additional crew members include director of photography Larry Fong, casting director Avy Kaufman, production designer Amy Williams, and costume designer Andrea Flesch.
Death of a Unicorne is currently in post-production, having filmed over the summer after receiving a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement. A24 will globally distribute the film release and co-finance with Ley Line Entertainment.
