Two A24 movies have been approved to film during the actors’ strike.
Is SAG on strike?
SAG-AFTRA is currently on strike, with many actors lobbying for better pay and protection from the ongoing rise of A.I. As their dispute currently exists with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), members are not permitted to appear in anything with an AMPTP producer attached.
Recently, SAG-AFTRA provided approval to 39 independent productions to film during the strike after confirming they were not tied to the AMPTP. The list includes two A24 movies: Mother Mary, starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, and Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega. This is because A24 is not connected to the AMPTP.
Other films on the list include Flight Risk, starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Mel Gibson, The Rivals of Amziah King, starring Matthew McConaughey, Bride Hard starring Rebel Wilson, Dust Bunny starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver, and The Chosen, a TV series about the life of Jesus Christ.
Some of the projects that have been approved have finished filming, but need waivers to allow the actors to do promotion.
