The currently in-development Transformers animated film now has a name and has rounded out its A-list cast as well. The Transformers One cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, and Scarlett Johansson, according to Variety.
The animated Transformers movie is set to be an origin story for the rivalry between the Autobots and Decepticons. The Transformers One cast includes Hemsworth as a young Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as a young Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
“I’m so excited and proud to be working with Hasbro and eOne to bring the first animated Transformers movie in almost 40 years to theaters for a never-before-told story,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, who announced the cast at CinemaCon.
While not too much is known about the movie, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently opened up on what to expect from it. According to di Bonaventura, the project will actually focus on the origins of a young Megatron and young Optimus Prime, as the two start out as friends before ending up on rival sides of the battlefield. The reason for covering this in an animated film, he says, is because it was simply “financially impossible” to do in a live-action format.
Di Bonaventura would also go on to reveal that not only is the Transformers animated movie plot they have mostly set but that he believes the best way to tell it is in a “natural trilogy.” This way, they can explore other aspects of the Transformers world, including the planet Cybertron.
Fans will get to hear the Transformers One cast when it releases in theaters on July 19, 2024.
