Rebel Moon Begins Production, Zack Snyder Shares Photos

Army of the Dead director Zack Snyder took to Twitter to confirm that production on his newest Netflix movie titled Rebel Moon has officially begun.

In addition, Snyder has also released three behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the upcoming action sci-fi film, offering us our first look at the film’s large scale and Djimon Hounsou’s mysterious character.

Described as a fantasy epic, Rebel Moon is being directed by Zack Snyder from a screenplay he is co-writing with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, based on a story by Snyder and Johnstad.

“The film is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius,” reads the synopsis. “They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the Tyrant.”

The film stars Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), Doona Bae (Sense8), Ray Fisher (Zack Snyder’s Justice League), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Rupert Friend (Hitman: Agent 47), and Stuart Martin (Army of Thieves).

Additional cast includes Jena Malone (Goliath, The Neon Demon), Staz Nair (Game of Thrones, Supergirl), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Alfonso Herrera (Queen of the South), E. Duffy (Acid Noir, Girlfriends), Charlotte Maggi (MaveriX), and Sky Yang (Halo, Holding).

Rebel Moon is produced by Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Zack Snyder for The Stone Quarry along with Grand Electric’s Eric Newman. Sarah Bowen will executive produce for Grand Electric.
