Nintendo announced Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water as a part of its E3 2021 Direct, but the horror title isn’t exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. Koei Tecmo revealed that it is also coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in addition to the Nintendo Switch version from the Direct. There’s no specific date, but it is coming sometime in 2021.

Maiden of the Black Water is the fifth game in the franchise and originally came out on the Wii U in 2014 in Japan. And while it did come out in other territories the following year, it didn’t leave the Wii U. This 2021 release will finally put Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water on other systems. This new port will sport upgraded visuals that “match the latest hardware advancements,” a Photo Mode, and new costumes for the multiple main characters.
The story is still the same as players go to Mt. Hikami, which is said to be at the center of many disappearances. It’s full of ghosts and the player’s camera is their only defense.

While improved versions of the first two eventually made their way onto the original Xbox, the Fatal Frame series was originally synonymous with the PlayStation 2. However, Fatal Frame started to became more Nintendo-focused after the third entry. Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, Project Zero 2: Wii Edition, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, and the 3DS spin-off Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir were all only on Nintendo hardware. Announcing that this game is coming to other platforms could signal that Fatal Frame will be a multiplatform series going forward.
