Former WWE superstar Jinder Mahal, who had a major segment earlier this year with The Rock, has shared the details. In January, WWE announced that the former WWE champion would be returning on the RAW Day One edition.
During the match, fans excited to see which former WWE champion would be returning were disappointed when Jinder Mahal came out. Mahal, who was bashing the crowd, was interrupted by The Rock. Both stars had a 20-minute segment that marked the beginning of The Rock’s latest run.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Jinder Mahal shared how the segment with The Rock was put together. He stated, “I met him at his hotel, and Brian Gewirtz was there. Wrote an awesome promo. When he sent it to me, I asked, ‘Can we say this? Yeah? Okay!’ – I guess for Rock, anything goes. He just said have fun. He was excited to work with me, and I was excited to work with him. He’s just a class act, The Rock is amazing. He gave me that moment, and Brian especially told me, ‘We’ve got time, don’t rush.’ Because I was short-changing myself, like, ‘Maybe I’ll walk and talk to the ring.’ He said, ‘No, no, no, enjoy it, have a full entrance, get some heat.’ We were allotted 20 minutes, which is amazing. It was an awesome experience.”
The Rock’s return at WWE RAW Day One edition kicked off his journey, which culminated at WrestleMania 40.
After WWE release: What’s next for Jinder Mahal?
WWE recently made a shocking decision when they released Jinder Mahal. Mahal, whose promo against The Rock was praised by fans online, is suddenly released from the promotion. Despite leaving WWE, Mahal is generating tons of interest on the independent scene.
According to Fightful Select, behind a paywall, Jinder Mahal is receiving heavy interest from promotions, including GCW. The promotion is waiting for his 90-day non-compete clause to finish, which ends in July. Furthermore, it’s stated that GCW’s reason to work with Mahal is due to Matt Cardona’s injury and the promotion’s desire for a new heel on their roster.
It will be interesting to see what lies in Jinder Mahal’s future, whether he chooses to go to GCW or make a shocking move and join AEW. Interestingly, Jinder Mahal and Tony Khan had a back-and-forth on Twitter earlier this year.
