Tony Khan‘s frustration with AEW star Jack Perry over the CM Punk backstage incident continues, with reports indicating that Khan is still “really mad” at Perry several months after the incident took place.
The incident occurred at AEW All In London in August 2023 when Perry commented in front of the camera after a segment involving real glass, disregarding Punk’s advice. This triggered a backstage incident involving Punk, ultimately resulting in AEW firing Punk and suspending Perry. Despite Punk’s subsequent return to WWE and Perry’s absence from AEW. The promotion decided not to fire Perry, but they are currently not utilizing him. Hence, he has been working for NJPW recently.
Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Tony Khan is still upset with Perry as he believes Perry’s actions cost him CM Punk. Meltzer stated, “He has not been fired. He’s absolutely not been fired, but they’re not using him. Essentially, Tony’s really mad at him because he cost him CM Punk. He’s getting the blame. He probably should have been suspended for a month or two. Where are we at seven months now? Seven months. It’s ridiculous. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime at this point.”
Perry himself has hinted at asking for his release from AEW. His recent actions in the New Japan Pro Wrestling have added to the uncertainty surrounding his future in AEW.
AEW star Jack Perry takes a dig at CM Punk once again
It appears that AEW star Jack Perry hasn’t let go of his past feud with CM Punk, as he seemingly took another jab at Punk during a recent appearance in NJPW.
Despite being absent from AEW TV since his suspension, Perry has found a place in NJPW. He has aligned himself with the House of Torture faction. On 7th March at NJPW New Japan Cup 2024 – Tag 2, Perry, alongside other House of Torture members, emerged victorious in a tag team match.
After the match, during a backstage interview, Perry didn’t hold back as he cut a promo aimed at the fans who might not appreciate the House of Torture. Using the same phrase he had previously used at AEW All In London during his match with Hook, Perry stated if the fans don’t like the House of Torture, then they can cry him a river.
This statement reaffirms Perry’s association with the House of Torture. But also shows that he’s willing to continue stirring the pot and making references to past incidents.
