In a surprising turn of events, AEW’s position on wrestling legend Ric Flair‘s return to the ring has been unveiled.
Flair made his debut on the October 26 edition of AEW Dynamite. The Nature Boy made his All Elite debut as a surprise gift for Sting. The latter has announced that he will retire after the Revolution 2024.
Following this appearance, an announcement came that Ric Flair had signed a two-year deal with All Elite Wrestling. As part of this new agreement, The Nature Boy’s ‘Wooooo!’ Energy drink will become the official energy drink of AEW.
On the latest edition of AEW Dynamite, Flair made his presence during a match between Sting, Darby Allin, and The Don Callis Family hinting at his desire to play a more active role in the company. However, it seems that the Nature Boy’s aspirations to showcase his signature moves at AEW Revolution may remain unfulfilled.
According to reports behind Fightful Select’s paywall, there is currently no consideration for Ric Flair to engage in in-ring performances.
“It should go without saying, but in case you’re wondering, we’re told Ric Flair hasn’t been considered for any in-ring performing, but has been actively pushing to do more physical spots.”
With Ric Flair having his final match in July 2022, he teamed with the now-departed AEW star and his son-in-law Andrade El Idolo to defeat the team of Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett. He hasn’t been slated for any official in-ring matches in AEW.
Ric Flair wants to share the ring with an AEW star MJF
After officially joining All Elite Wrestling, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has targeted former AEW World Champion MJF.
In an interview with Variety, Flair said he was excited to go face-to-face with MJF in a promo segment.
“I can still talk better than anybody. They’ll find out if they turn me loose. I’m dying to go one-on-one with MJF, man. It would get a rating too. ‘Let’s talk, young man’,” Flair said.
Having inked a two-year deal with Tony Khan’s promotion, it will be intriguing to observe whether Khan decides to schedule Flair in a storyline alongside MJF. Nevertheless, reports indicate that MJF will likely be absent for a significant portion of 2024 due to an injury.
