The official Radical trailer for Pantelion Films’ upcoming Spanish-language drama has been released, starring CODA’s Eugenio Derbez. The film had its world premiere early this year at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Festival Favorite Award. It is scheduled to arrive in U.S. theaters on November 3.
The video introduces Derbez’s Sergio Juarez, a teacher tries to inspire his students by igniting their curiosity and bringing out their potential with his unique method of teaching. It also teases how he’ll change the lives of his students, who are living at a Mexican border town which is plagued by neglect, corruption, and violence.

What to expect in Radical?
“Who will the sixth grade students at Jose Urbina Lopez Elementary in Matamoros become? They are among the worst performing students in Mexico, the world they know is one of violence and hardship, and their classrooms are dominated by an atmosphere of overbearing discipline, not possibility. It might seem like a dead end… but it is also the perfect place for new teacher Sergio Juarez to try something different. There’s just one problem: Sergio has no idea what he’s doing,” reads the synopsis (via Sundance). “Based on true events, Radical shines a light on the incredible potential children can manifest when an innovative teacher empowers them to think for themselves.”
Based on Josh Davis’ 2013 article for Wired magazine, Radical is written and directed by Christopher Zalla (Padre Nuestro). Joining Derbez are Daniel Haddad, Jennifer Trejo, Mia Fernanda Solis, Danilo Guardiola, Gilberto Barraza, Victor Estrada, Manuel Marquez, Christian Gonzales, Xochiquetzal Martinez, Edmundo Monoz, Enoc Leano, Manuel Cruz Vivas, and more.
The film is executive produced by Joshuah Bearman, Ivan Gutierrez Araico, Avelino Rodriguez, Patricia Sanchez, and Javier Williams, with Davis, Derbez, and Ben Odell producing.
