MGM has dropped the trailer for The Boys in the Boat, George Clooney’s next directorial movie starring Joel Edgerton and Callum Turner. The sports drama is slated to arrive in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25.
The video introduces a college rowing team consisting of underdog students who turn to rowing for the sake of survival during one of the most challenging periods in human history. It highlights the team’s bid to win the gold at the Summer Olympics in Berlin, where they’ll compete against Germany’s Nazi rowing team.

What to expect in The Boys in the Boat?
“Based on the bestselling non-fiction novel about the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed for gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympic games, this true story follows a group of underdogs at the height of the Great Depression as they’re thrust into the spotlight and take on elite international rivals,” reads the synopsis.
The Boys in the Boat is directed by Clooney from a screenplay written by Mark L. Smith, based on Daniel James Brown’s 2013’s novel of the same name. The film stars Callum Turner, Joel Edgerton, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jack Mulhern, Sam Strike, Luke Slattery, Thomas Elms, Tom Varey, Bruce Herbelin-Earle, Wil Coban, James Wolk, Hadley Robinson, and Courtney Henggeler.
It is executive produced by Gary Barber, Barbara A. Hall, Andy Mitchell, Peter Oillataguerre, and Kevin Ulrich. Clooney, Lee Grumett, and Grant Heslov are also serving as producers.
