Focus Features has dropped the first teaser for Tár, Todd Field’s forthcoming feature directorial comeback starring Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett. The video offers our first look at Blanchett’s portrayal of composer and conductor Lydia Tár.
The biographical drama is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 7, pitting it against Sony Pictures’ CG live-action film adaptation of Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which features the voice of Shawn Mendes.

Tár will be set in the international world of classical music. It is led by Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, who has signed on for the leading role of Lydia Tár, an orchestra conductor widely considered one of the greatest at her craft and the first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra.

Joining Blanchett are Mark Strong (The Imitation Game), Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire), Nina Hoss (Homeland), Julian Glover (Game of Thrones), Allan Corduner (Yentl), Sophie Kauer, and Sylvia Flote.

Tár is being written and directed by Todd Field, who is making his comeback after a 15-year hiatus since the critical success of Little Children. It is produced by Field, Alexandra Milchan, and Scott Lambert. Production is currently underway in Berlin.
Acclaimed Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir has also boarded the project to compose the film’s score. She is best known as the first female composer to win an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her work on 2019’s Joker.
