Netflix has released a trailer for 13: The Musical, the coming-of-age dramedy based on Jason Robert Brown and Dan Elish’s 2007 Broadway musical of the same name. The film will be available for streaming on August 12.
The video features 12-year-old Evan Goldman, whose plans of having the best Bar Mitzvah get derailed when his parents decided to divorce. Because of this, he has to move away from his life in New York and try to start a new one in small-town Indiana. He must navigate his new school’s different social cliques if he wants to have the greatest Bar Mitzvah party.

13: The Musical stars Eli Golden, Rhea Perlman, Josh Peck, Peter Hermann, Gabriella Uhl, JD McCrary, Frankie McNellis, Lindsey Blackwell, Jonathan Lengel, Ramon Reed, Nolen Dubuc, Luke Islam, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Kayleigh Cerezo, Willow Moss, Liam Wignall, and Khiyla Aynne.
“A 12-year-old NYC kid plans the ultimate Bar Mitzvah,” reads the synopsis. “However, those plans go awry when his parents reveal they are getting divorced, and he has to move halfway across the country. With no friends and his parents not on speaking terms, how is he going to have the epic Bar Mitzvah he’s always dreamed of?”

The film is directed by Tamra Davis (Crossroads) from a screenplay written by Robert Horn. The original Broadway production in 2008 featured the Broadway debuts of Victorious stars Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies.
