Netflix has released the first official Emilia Pérez trailer, previewing the upcoming French musical crime comedy starring Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, and Karla Sofia Gascón.
What happens in the Emilia Pérez trailer?
The new Emilia Pérez trailer doesn’t give away too much of the film’s plot, which will follow disgruntled lawyer Rita (Saldaña), who is tasked with helping an escaped Mexican cartel leader get sex reassignment surgery to evade the authorities and affirm their gender.
Emilia Pérez will premiere in select theaters in November and will premiere exclusively on Netflix on November 13, 2024.

The film is written and directed by Jacques Audiard, who previously made 2009’s A Prophet, 2012’s Rust and Bone, and 2018’s The Sisters Brothers. Alongside Goemz and Saldaña, the film also stars Karla Sofia Gascón, Adriana Paz, Mark Ivanir, Édgar Ramírez, James Gerard, Shiraz Tzarfati, and more.
“Saldaña stars as Rita, an undervalued lawyer whose firm is more inclined to help criminals than seek justice,” Variety’s description of the film reads. “She finds an unexpected way out when a feared drug cartel leader Manitas (Gascón) recruits her to aid him in surreptitiously completing a sex change operation to become the woman he’s always wanted to be. Gomez plays his unsuspecting wife.”
