Netflix released the teaser trailer for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s forthcoming feature directorial debut titled Tick, Tick…Boom!, based on Rent playwright and composer Jonathan Larson’s autobiographical Off-Broadway musical of the same name. The video gives us our first look at Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield as he portrays the role of Larson, an aspiring theater composer experiencing a midlife crisis about the career he has chosen. The film is expected to arrive in the select theaters and on Netflix this fall.

Netflix’s Tick, Tick…Boom! follows an aspiring theater composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner in 1990, while writing Superbia, which he hopes will be the great American musical that will finally give him his big career break. The young man is feeling pressure from his girlfriend Susan, who is tired of continuing to put her life on hold for Jon’s career aspiration. Meanwhile, Jon’s best friend and roommate Michael has given up on his creative dream and has taken a high-paying advertising job on Madison Avenue, and is preparing to move out. With the clock ticking, Jon is at a crossroads and faces the question everyone must reckon with: What are we meant to do with the time we have?
The film stars Academy Award nominee and Tony Award winner Andrew Garfield (The Social Network), Alexandra Shipp (Tragedy Girls), Tony Award nominee Robin de Jesús (The Boys in the Band), Tony Award nominee Joshua Henry (Hamilton), MJ Rodriguez (Pose), Emmy Award winner Bradley Whitford (The West Wing), Tariq Trotter, with Emmy and Tony Award winner Judith Light (Transparent), and Vanessa Hudgens (The Princess Switch).

Tick, Tick…Boom! is directed and produced by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is known for his work on acclaimed Broadway musicals Hamilton and In the Heights. The film adaptation is written by Steven Levenson, with Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Julie Oh set as producers. Executive producers are Levenson and Julie Larson.
