Charlize Theron to Play Megyn Kelly in Roger Ailes Movie

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Charlize Theron (Tully, Young Adult) will be portraying former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly in Annapurna’s upcoming film about the late Roger Ailes.

Megyn Kelly is best known for her work as a Fox News anchor. She initially got her start on Fox as a legal contributor for the station, using her extensive legal background to her advantage. Over the course of ten years, she rose through the ranks at Fox News to become a host of her own show The Kelly File. When news erupted over Roger Ailes’ numerous sexual misconduct accusations, she was reportedly pressured to come out in support of Ailes. She refused and eventually transitioned from Fox News to NBC.

The Roger Ailes project is described mostly as an ensemble piece, with the majority of the focus being on Roger Ailes. Along with Megyn Kelly, other characters that may be included in the film are Gretchen Carlson, former anchor Greta Van Susteren, Rupert Murdoch, and former host Bill O’Reilly.

The film will focus primarily on the rise and fall of Ailes’ career at Fox News. His influence in Republican circles helped him assist in the election of a couple of presidents such as Richard Nixon and George Bush. Ailes’ public resignation in 2016 was as a result of numerous sexual misconduct allegations surfacing in the media.

Annapurna is financing and producing the feature. Director Jay Roach (Game Change) is set to direct the film and Charles Randolph has penned the script for the project. Theron will also be producing the feature along with Beth Kong and AJ Dix via Denver & Delilah. Roach, Randolph, and Margaret Riley are also producing.
