Charlize Theron is reportedly attached to produce and star in a new sci-fi action movie called Courage.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Theron is attached to produce and star in Courage, a new sci-fi movie currently seeking a director.
In November 2017, Deadline reported that Kingsman: The Golden Circle’s Matthew Vaughn was looking to produce and potentially direct Courage, which at the time was described as “an epic premise, a drama in the vein of Inception and Edge of Tomorrow.”
Sneider reports that Vaughn was going to make the movie with Fox but dropped out after Disney acquired the company in 2019.
Theron, who has reportedly been attached to the project for “quite a while,” is now searching for a new director with her media company, with Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins and The Old Guard’s Gina Prince-Bythewood being two names who are of interest.
Sneider also reports that Theron is potentially looking to partner with Netflix for the film, though this has not been made official at the time.
What is Courage about?
“The story takes place in a future where the polar ice caps have melted and people have taken refuge in Chicago, which is under a glass dome surrounded by 100 feet of water, in which giant, mind-controlling sea aliens lurk,” Sneider’s description reads. “The protagonist is a psychiatrist fighting to save their family, though nothing is quite as it seems.”
Theron starred in 2020’s The Old Guard, while she also plays Clea in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Cipher in the Fast & Furious franchise. She’s also known for playing Furiosa in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road and has additionally starred in 2005’s Æon Flux, 2011’s Young Adult, 2017’s Atomic Blonde, and 2022’s The School for Good and Evil, among many other roles.
