Jack O’Connell and Lily Collins will star as a married couple in the upcoming film The Cradle, which is set to begin filming this summer, according to Variety.
The film, an adaptation of the 2009 novel of the same name by Patrick Somerville, follows young couple Matt (O’Connell) and Marissa (Collins) as they prepare for their first child and sees Matt embark on a journey to find the cradle Marissa had as a child to use for their child, gaining new insights about life and family connections.
The screenplay is co-written by Somerville along with Hope Dickson Leach, who burst onto the independent scene with last year’s acclaimed The Levelling and will be directing The Cradle, and will be produced by Protagonist Pictures, who will open the script to buyers at Cannes, which begins May 8.
Though having been in the industry for over ten years, the past five years has seen a major rise for O’Connell, who gained widespread recognition for his role as Louis Zamperini in 2014’s Unbroken, followed by major roles in the 2016 thriller Money Monster and acclaimed Netflix western Godless last year. Collins has been in the industry since the young age of two, but truly rose to popularity in 2009 with her role in The Blind Side and has continued to rise with highly received performances in last year’s To the Bone and Okja.
