Oscar nominated writer/director Scott Hicks (Shine) has gone from Oscar contenders to young adult adaptations as he is now working on a feature film adaptation of Lauren Kate‘s Fallen and today we get the above first look picture as production is underway.
[amz asin=”B002WE46VG” size=”small”]The film will feature Addison Timlin (Zac Efron‘s fuck buddy in That Awkward Moment) as Lucinda “Luce” Price, a 17-year-old accused of a crime she didn’t commit. Sent off to the Sword & Cross reform school, Luce finds herself being courted by two young men (War Horse star Jeremy Irvine and Harrison Gilbertson who played Little Pete in Need for Speed) who turn out to be fallen angels, whom the official synopsis tells us have been “competing for her love for centuries”. Really, before she was even born? There must be an amazing back-story there, or you can read the ridiculous plot synopsis at Wikipedia and spoil it all in hilarious fashion.
Finally, this line from the synopsis is great: “Luce must choose where her feelings lie, pitting Heaven against Hell in an epic battle over true love.” EPIC!
The film co-stars Joely Richardson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Lola Kirke (Gone Girl), Sianoa Smit-McPhee (“Hung”), Daisy Head, Hermione Corfield (Maleficent) and Malachi Kirby (My Brother the Devil).
This, my friends, is a sign of what production companies will do in search of a hit. How bad is it? Well, Jeremy Irvine‘s name was misspelled in the press release as was “Tattoo” in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
I also have to say, it’s a little surprising this is what it has come to for Scott Hicks and Irvine is better than this. I haven’t seen enough from Timlin to know if she’s got any real talent, but man, movies like this just reek of desperation.
