The official Transformers One runtime has been revealed for Paramount Pictures‘ highly-anticipated animated prequel, which will chronicle the origins of lifelong rivals Optimus Prime and Megatron, who will be voiced by Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry, respectively.
According to director Josh Cooley, Transformers One will only have a total running time of 90 minutes or an hour and 30 minutes. The film is currently slated to debut in theaters on Friday, September 20.
What scene was cut from the Transformers One runtime?
During a recent interview, Cooley admitted that he had to cut out several scenes from Transformers One, including a Gladiator sequence involving Megatron. He confirmed that they’ve instead reimagined Megatron/D-16 and Optimus Prime/Orion Pax as “bunkmates working as miners to bring Energon back to the planet after a years-long drought.”
“If we had all the time in the world, it would’ve been fun to show Megatron as a gladiator and have the two characters come from very different backgrounds,” Cooley said to Indiewire. “We actually had a gladiator scene that alluded to this origin that was cut out.”
Described as the first-ever fully CG-animated Transformers movie, the prequel is directed by Cooley from a screenplay written by Andrew Barer, Steve Desmond, Gabriel Ferrari, and Michael Sherman. It features the voices of Hemsworth as Orion/Optimus Prime, Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Brian Tyree Henry as D-16/Megatron, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion, with Steve Buscemi.
