What is Neil Marshall’s Duchess about?
“The film follows the rise of no-nonsense Scarlett Monaghan from a working-class petty criminal to a ruthless organized crime leader in the seedy underbelly of the diamond smuggling circuit of Tenerife,” the film’s synopsis reads.
Duchess stars Charlotte Kirk, known for starring in Marshall’s The Reckoning and 2018’s Ocean’s 8, as Scarlett Monaghan. The movie’s cast also includes Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Con Air), Sean Pertwee (Gotham, Equilibrium), Phillip Winchester (Strike Back, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), Colin Eggelsfield (All My Children, Rizzoli & Isles) and Stephanie Beacham (Dynasty, The Colbys).
Kirk and Marshall co-wrote the script for Duchess together. Emily Corcoran and Kristyna Sellnerova produced the movie, while Ashland Media Finance handled the production. Palisades Park Pictures serves as the sales agent for Duchess, which is headed to the Cannes Film Festival next month.
Marshall made his feature film directorial debut in 2002 with Dog Soldiers. He went on to direct The Descent, a 2005 claustrophobic horror movie that spawned a sequel (which Marshall executive produced) in 2009. He also directed 2008’s Doomsday, 2010’s Centurion, 2015’s Tales of Halloween, 2019’s Hellboy, 2020’s The Reckoning, and, most recently, 2022’s The Lair.
Additionally, Marshall has directed episodes of Game of Thrones, Black Sails, Constantine, Hannibal, Timeless, Westworld, and Lost in Space, among other titles.
Duchess will be released in United States theaters later this year from Saban Films.
