On Wednesday, Netflix announced the voice cast for That Christmas, a new animated film based on a series of children’s books from writer and director Richard Curtis. Brian Cox headlines That Christmas as the voice of Santa Claus. The film arrives later this year on Netflix.
Starring alongside Cox in That Christmas is Fiona Shaw as Ms. Trapper, Jodie Whittaker as Mrs. Williams, and Bill Nighy as Bill. This trio of characters are residents of a seaside town where “things turn upside down one Christmas.”
What to Expect in That Christmas?
The official synopsis from Netflix: “That Christmas follows a series of entwined tales about love and loneliness, family and friends, and Santa Claus making a big mistake, not to mention an enormous number of turkeys!”
That Christmas also stars Lolly Adefope, Alex Macqueen, Katherine Parkinson, Sindhu Vee, India Brown, Zazie Hayhurst, Sienna Sayer, Jack Wisniewski, Rosie Cavaliero, Paul Kaye, Guz Khan, Andy Nyman, Kuhu Agarwal, Bronte Smith, Freddie Spry, Ava Talbot, and Rhys Darby.
That Christmas is an adaptation of Curtis’ children’s book series – The Empty Stocking, Snow Day, and That Christmas. That Christmas was penned by Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually) and directed by Simon Otto, a character animation and story artist best known for his work on the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. That Christmas is Otto’s feature film directorial debut.
Nicole P. Hearon and Adam Tandy will produce That Christmas. John Powell (Happy Feet, Shrek) will compose the score. Locksmith Animation is producing while DNEG will provide animation production.
