What to Expect in Road House?
“Road House stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter trying to escape his dark past and his penchant for violence, in this adrenaline-fueled actioner. Dalton is barely scraping by on the reputation that still precedes him when he is spotted by Frankie (Jessica Williams), owner of a roadhouse in the Florida Keys,” the official synopsis reads. “She hires him to be her new bouncer in hopes of stopping a violent gang, working for crime boss Brandt (Billy Magnussen), from destroying her beloved bar. Even five to one, Brandt’s crew is no match for Dalton’s skills. But the stakes get higher with the arrival of ruthless gun-for-hire, Knox (Conor McGregor). As the brutal brawls and bloodshed escalate, the tropical Keys prove more dangerous than anything Dalton ever faced in the Octagon.”
Road House is directed by Doug Liman from a screenplay by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. Joel Silver will produce alongside executive producers JJ Hook, Alison Winter, Aaron Auch, and Audie Attar.
Road House’s world premiere on March 8 will be the opening film for the 2024 SXSW. However, Liman will not be in attendance. The Bourne Identity director is protesting Amazon’s decision to bypass a theatrical release in favor of a direct-to-streaming strategy. Liman released a statement, saying Amazon is “gutting MGM and its theatrical business” and has “no interest in supporting cinemas.”
The 2024 film is based on 1989’s Road House starring Patrick Swayze as John Dalton. Directed by Rowdy Herrington, Road House’s ensemble included Kelly Lynch, Ben Gazzara, Kevin Tighe, Red West, and Sam Elliot.
