According to The Hollywood Reporter, Audible has finally unveiled the star-studded cast of its upcoming audio adaptation of 1984, based on George Orwell‘s popular dystopian novel of the same name. It is scheduled to be released on April 4.
“This is 1984 like you’ve never heard it before,” Audible executive Aurelie de Troyer said in a statement. “We’ve assembled a top team of creatives across the board, and the combination of the principal cast and Matt and Ilan’s epic soundtrack is something quite extraordinary. Andrew Garfield was born to play Winston – just wait until you hear his performance.”
The adaptation will be brought to life by acclaimed actors Andrew Garfield, Cynthia Erivo, Andrew Scott, and Tom Hardy, as they portray the respective roles of Winston, Julia, O’Brien and Big Brother. Additional cast also include Romesh Ranganathan as Parsons, Natasia Demetriou as Mrs Parsons, Chukwudi Iwuji as Charrington, Francesca Mills as Syme, Katie Leung as Ling, and Alex Lawther as Ampleforth.
What is 1984?
“Set in an imagined dystopian future, 1984 follows Winston and his colleague, Julia, are dissatisfied with their totalitarian government and look to make a change,” reads the synopsis. “However, as they begin to plot, they learn that the government is always watching.”
1984 is directed by Destiny Ekaragha. It will feature an original score which hails from write Muse front-man Matthew Bellamy and composer Ilan Eshkeri, which will be performed by a 60-piece orchestra at Abbey Road studio. The Audible Original adaptation has already received the blessing and support of the Orwell Estate to go ahead with the project.
