Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, who recently starred as Barbie and Ken, are set to reunite in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel. The duo are rumored to be playing Danny Ocean’s parents. What does Robbie think about the rumors of her playing the mother of the legendary thief? For now, Robbie is having fun with the gossip.
“Honestly, I’m so chuffed to hear that,” Robbie told Variety. “That is extremely high praise. Wow, how exciting!”
George Clooney, who starred as Danny Ocean in the Ocean’s trilogy, recently joked that it “makes sense” for Robbie and Gosling to play his parents. Tom Ackerley, Robbie’s husband and producing partner, clarified that Robbie playing Danny Ocean’s mother is strictly a rumor.
“That wasn’t a plot point that we’ve confirmed or denied,” Ackerley said to Variety. “We’re still working on the script.”
“So I don’t know who his parents will ultimately be or not be,” Robbie added, with Ackerley teasing that the parents may not even be in the movie.
What to Expect in Ocean’s 11 Prequel?
Jay Roach is set to direct the Ocean’s Eleven prequel starring Robbie and Gosling. The prequel is described as a 1960s heist/love story in the backdrop of the Monaco Grand Prix.
“Margot brought it to me as a kind of old-fashioned epic love story slash adventure disguised as a heist,” Roach told AP News in June 2023. “It is a heist movie still, but it’s very much a love story. And we were both inspired by Hitchcock, To Catch a Thief but also Notorious. It just wants to be a big, big, you know, cinematic spectacle. We didn’t quite sync up yet on what the right budget for it is.”
Filming was supposed to begin in France at the end of June, but the Hollywood strikes delayed production. The film is currently undated.
