The Super Mario Bros. Movie star Jack Black has revealed his idea for a sequel to the popular animated video game movie adaptation.
Speaking with Variety, Black said that he thinks the animated sequel should be called Bowser’s Revenge. Additionally, the actor and musician thinks the follow-up film should “be a full musical,” then compared it to the upcoming second Joker movie.
“I think it should be a full musical, like what Todd Phillips is supposedly doing with Joker 2,” Black stated.
The first film featured the voices of its all-star cast including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
Despite receiving mixed reception from critics, the adaptation still became one of the year’s biggest movie releases. So far, it is currently the second highest-grossing movie of 2023, with a worldwide gross of over $1.3 billion at the box office.
