Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One’s journey to the big screen has been one of perseverance due to the challenges the cast and crew faced because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming had to be shut down at least five times. Tom Cruise, who contracted COVID while filming, was even heard berating the crew after a few members broke protocols. After all the COVID setbacks and shutdowns, Mission: Impossible 7 is finally coming to theaters on July 12, a feat Cruise is grateful for.
“We talked about it. We dreamed about it. It’s very, very special,” Cruise said to The Hollywood Reporter at the Monday night premiere of Dead Reckoning Part One. “On Top Gun: Maverick, they kept pushing the movie and pushing the movie, and for [McQuarrie] and I, this is such an ambitious movie. And it was a very challenging film to produce, and then everything happened, and it was even more challenging. So to have this response…is very, very special.”
Who is Involved in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One?
Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt, the iconic IMF agent, for the seventh time. Ethan, with help from Luther (Ving Rhames), Benji (Simon Pegg), and Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson), must stop a new criminal organization from securing a weapon that could destroy humanity.
“Ethan Hunt and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: to track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens humanity before it falls into the wrong hands,” the official synopsis reads. “With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.”
The ensemble cast includes Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Shea Whigham, Pom Klementieff, Cary Elwes, and Henry Czerny, who reprises his role as Eugene Kittridge from Mission: Impossible.
