Tom Holland Gives Spider-Man 4 Update, Talks Writers Strike Impact

Tom Holland has provided a Spider-Man 4 update on the upcoming Spider-Man movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with Variety at the New York City premiere of his new Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room on Thursday, June 1, Holland said that he was not allowed to share much about the status of Spider-Man 4. He had meetings about where to take Peter Parker’s character, but they have been put on hold with the writer’s strike.

“I can’t talk about that, but I can say that we have been having meetings,” said Holland in his Spider-Man 4 update. “We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers. There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point, it’s very, very early stages.”

There is no current set release date for Spider-Man 4. Ever since we last saw the web-slinging superhero team up with other Spider-Men to battle generations of villains in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans may have been eager to see where Marvel would take the character. This is especially after the film’s bittersweet ending, which seemed to promise a fresh start for the character.

However, producer Amy Pascal also provided an update on the status of Spider-Man at the premiere of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. She told Variety, “Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are. We’re in the process, but [with] the writers strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters, and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”

It is not yet known whether Spider-Man 4 will be a part of Phase Five, Six, or beyond in the MCU. However, fans of the wall-crawling hero will get their fix of Spider-Man this weekend with the release of the new animated movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
