According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has officially set the release date for Will Gluck’s next romantic comedy Anyone But You, starring Euphoria breakout Sydney Sweeney and Top Gun: Maverick’s Glen Powell. The R-rated movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters later this year on December 15.
Its current theatrical release date will see the film go up directly against Warner Bros.’ musical prequel Wonka starring Oscar nominee Timothee Chalamet. Anyone But You will also be debuting in the same month as other high-profile features including the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
What to expect in Anyone But You
Anyone But You is directed by Will Gluck from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ilana Wolpert. The filmmaker is best known for his directorial work on romantic comedies Easy A and Friends with Benefits, as well as Peter Rabbit movies. Joining Sweeney and Powell are Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Dermot Mulroney, Rachel Griffiths, Michelle Hurd, Bryan Brown, Darren Barnet and Hadley Robinson.
“Set in Sydney, Australia, the film follows two people who loathe each other so much — they can’t resist the other,” reads the synopsis. It shows the two of them going on various vacation hijinks from falling off boats to getting big spiders down their pants.”
The project is executive produced by Sweeney, Natalie Sellers, Alyssa Altman, and Jacqueline Monetta, with Gluck, Joe Roth, and Jeff Kirschenbaum as producers.
