Reports have emerged that Glen Powell is set to star in Acorns, J.J. Abrams’s next movie, which is seemingly a supernatural thriller.
Acorns Sees Abrams Back in the Director’s Chair
Production Weekly has a listing for Acorns that reveals the plot involves “a young married couple struggling to survive against a supernatural entity.”
World of Reel confirmed Glen Powell is in talks to star in the secretive project, with Timothee Chalamet previously rumored to be in the mix.
No production date has been set for Acorns, but Warner Bros. is reportedly close to winning the rights to produce it.
Glen Powell is a hot commodity at the moment, based on successful movies such as Top Gun Maverick and Sydney Sweeney’s romcom Anyone But You. On the near horizon, he’s in Richard Linklater’s Hit Man and blockbuster sequel Twisters. Among his future roles is the lead in Edgar Wright’s version of The Running Man.
J.J. Abrams has been a producer on several hit franchises such as Cloverfield, Star Wars, Mission: Impossible, and Star Trek, but has only directed half a dozen films, with 2011’s Super 8 the only original movie of the lot.
Will Acorns be another original film or a secret sequel in another franchise? Time will tell, but it’ll be interesting to see Abrams heading back to horror-flavored cinema for the first time in nearly 15 years.
