Zack Snyder Updates Fans on Relationship With DC Studios

A large contingent of fans may be clamoring to see Zack Snyder return to the world of DC, but the director recently said he’s had no talks with the company following James Gunn’s promotion to head of DC Studios.

In a recent appearance on The Preston and Steve Show, Snyder was asked if he’s had anyone reach out to him since DC Studios was launched with James Gunn and Peter Safran named as the co-heads of the studio. Snyder has said that as far as he knows, he hasn’t been reached out to him for anything, although he does wish to see the studio continue to put out “cool movies.”

“As far as I know, which is very little, I am doing my thing and haven’t had anyone give me a call or anything,” said Snyder. “So I a just wishing them all the best and hoping that they make some cool movies.”

Snyder’s last film in the DC Extended Universe was his cut of Justice League, which was released in 2021 and acted as Snyder’s official version of the 2017 film. Since then, fans have continued to clamor for more entries in the “Snyderverse,” it’s unclear if the studio will continue to explore the universe Snyder helped create, although there are still some films set to release that take place in the overarching universe, including the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash.

The initial report of Gunn and Safran heading up DC Studios mentions that both are still expected to continue directing and producing other projects. Also important to note is the fact that, according to early reports, the separate universes established at DC — including that of Todd Phillips’ Joker films — will not be overseen by Gunn and Safran. At this point, it’s unknown if Matt Reeves’ The Batman films will be, but any future DC project will be overseen by Gunn and Safran moving forward.
