James Gunn has taken to social media to confirm that his Superman movie starring David Corenswet has wrapped up filming.
A couple of weeks ago, Gunn confirmed there were a couple of weeks to go on filming of the latest iteration of the Man of Steel as they wrapped a shoot in Cleveland. true to his word, here we are.
”And that’s a wrap. God bless our cast and crew, whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much,” wrote Gunn. ”And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set – and for that I am forever grateful.”
Superman continues his legacy
Formerly known as Superman Legacy, Gunn’s Superman looks to truly kick off the new era of DC movies under his guidance. A messy, fractured decade or so had left the DCU in need of a refresh, and sweeping changes have been implemented since Gunn was brought in.
“Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician) will play the titular role of Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan, (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) will play Lois Lane. They’re joined by Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela De Faría, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and more.
Superman is set to release on July 11, 2025.
