In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji has finally opened up about his mysterious role in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Even though he can’t reveal which Marvel character he’s currently playing, Iwuji still went on to describe his character as someone who’s both complex and extremely powerful.
“Powerful. Extremely powerful. Complex,” Iwuji teased of his yet-to-be-named character. “James and I were talking about it, but he’s certainly one of, if not the most complex characters we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel universe. So he’s deeply complex and deeply powerful, and I hope intriguing. I hope I bring that to it.”

In addition, he also shared the story of how he joined the long-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe project, revealing that director James Gunn offered him the part while they were filming the highly-talked about opening credits of Peacemaker.
“I literally went from dancing on the soundstage to James saying, ‘Come over here, I want you to be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3,’” Iwuji recalled. “I remember it was one of the few genuine times of my life where I was speechless. I just looked at him and I was like, ‘Um, yes, okay.’ So that’s how he offered it. I mean, we still had to go through Kevin Feige and certain people, but apparently, he’d already spoken to them and they liked the idea of it.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is once again written and directed by James Gunn. It features the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Sean Gunn, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel as they reprise their respective roles as Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Kraglin, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot. Joining them are MCU newcomers Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji, with Poulter confirmed to be playing the role of Adam Warlock.

The space-traveling team was last seen in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame where they were joined by Chris Hemsworth’s Thor during the final moments of the film. Because of this, some of the Guardians of the Galaxy stars including Pratt, Bautista, and Gillan are set to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.
The long-delayed film is currently scheduled to debut on May 5, 2023.
