Batgirl Set Photo Reveals HBO Max Film Has Begun Shooting

Batgirl co-director Adil El Arbi revealed today that the HBO Max film has begun filming. On Instagram, El Arbi posted a set photo and confirmed that it is day one of shooting for the upcoming DC Extended Universe film.

Batgirl will center on Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. The character was first seen in the 1967 Batman series with the late Yvonne Craig playing Barbara. Batgirl’s first comic book appearance was in Detective Comics #357 by writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino.

Batgirl is being helmed by Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a screenplay by Christina Hodson (BumblebeeBirds of PreyThe Flash) with Kristin Burr (Cruella) producing. The movie will release exclusively on HBO Max.

Batgirl/Barbara Gordon’s last appearance in a live-action big-screen feature was in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, released in 1997 and starring Alicia Silverstone in the role alongside George Clooney’s Batman and Chris O’Donnell’s Robin.
