Second The Witcher Anime Film & Family Series Announced

Second The Witcher Anime Film & Family Series in Development

Netflix is continuing to flesh out The Witcher universe.

During Netflix’s Tudum event, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich announced that a second The Witcher anime film is in the works. The first film looked into the past of Geralt’s mentor Vesemir and was called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. No plot details were revealed just yet or if Studio Mir is involved.

Also in the works is a “fun-filled kids and family series.” Considering the Polish novels, the television series, and the video game adaptation all don’t shy away from violence and mature themes, this will certainly be a departure for the fantasy series.

“The world of The Witcher expands in this anime origin story: Before Geralt, there was his mentor Vesemir — a swashbuckling young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin,” says the official synopsis for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. “But when a strange new monster begins terrorizing a politically-fraught kingdom, Vesemir finds himself on a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past…”

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is written and produced by Beau DeMayo. It is also produced by The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. The anime film hails from Studio Mir, the Korean animation studio behind Nickelodeon’s Legend of Korra and Netflix’s original anime series Voltron Legendary Defender.
