Although the actor was previously rumored to play cyclist Lance Armstrong in a wholly separate studio biopic, Deadline is reporting that Bradley Cooper is now negotiating to both produce and headline Jay Roach’s take, titled Red Blooded America.
Although it’s likely that Cooper will take the Armstrong role based on his past interest in the part, the outlet notes that he could potentially play Tyler Hamilton, a former teammate of Armstrong, who later spoke out against him, instead.
Red Blooded American features a screenplay by Scott Z. Burns (Side Effects, Contagion) and is set up at Warner Bros. and Atlas Entertainment. Competing narrative projects include an untitled one from director Stephen Frears and Cycle of Lies, a take from Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot that Cooper was said to have previously considered. A documentary, The Armstrong Lie, was, meanwhile, recently announced for distribution by Sony Pictures Classics.
Cooper, who recently starred in The Hangover Part III, can be seen coming up in both Susanne Bier’s Serena and David O. Russell’s American Hustle.
