RED 2 won’t hit theaters until July 19, but Summit Entertainment is already working on the next installment. The studio has signed RED and RED 2 screenwriters Jon and Erich Hoeber to pen RED 3, says The Hollywood Reporter.
According to the trade, no deals with the cast have been made, but if the script is approved, production could begin as early as January 2014.
Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce the third installment via their DiBonaventura Pictures. Erik Feig, Lionsgates president of production, will oversee the project for the studio along with Summits president of production Geoff Shaevitz.
RED 2 stars Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung Hun Lee, Brian Cox and Neal McDonough.
The 2010 first film was made for about $58 million and earned $199 million at the worldwide box office.
