An award-winning actor both on the stage and on the screen, Allison Janney is practically a household name at this point. Her reputation defines her as someone who’s happy to take on a supporting role over a leading one, but that’s far from what Janney is truly capable of—any time she’s been given a leading role, she’s completely knocked it out of the park.
Known best for her work on The West Wing and, more recently, on CBS’s multicam sitcom Mom, Janney has proved time and time again to be more than just a side performer. Someone with over 100 credits to their name would have to be a pretty big fan of acting, right? One can be sure that, no matter where Janney’s career takes her, it can be certain that it’ll be worthwhile to go along for the ride.

I, Tonya (2017)
The movie that actually won her an Oscar, Allison Janney in I, Tonya is a sight to be seen. After a lifetime of supporting roles, Janney finally found the one that fit her perfectly and allowed her to receive the recognition she deserves. I, Tonya is the best Janney has to offer.

Finding Nemo (2003)
A role in a Disney/Pixar film is an easy “best-of” for any talented actor. Janney has a great turn in 2003’s Finding Nemo as the lovable starfish Peach. It’s a much different different film than I, Tonya, but still just as enjoyable.

Juno (2007)
Considered one of the most seminal independent comedies of the 2000s, Juno put Ellen Page on the map and helped to boost Michael Cera further into stardom. On top of this, it also features Janney playing Page’s character’s mom, an early foreshadowing for Janney’s eventual Oscar win as a dysfunctional mom.

The Way, Way Back (2013)
An all-star independent film from 2013 featuring great performances from Toni Collette, Steve Carrell, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, and AnnaSophia Robb, The Way, Way Back also sees Janney once again playing a mom. It’s okay, though, because she fits right in among this stacked cast.

Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
An early entry in Janney’s filmography, Drop Dead Gorgeous is probably the most misunderstood and under-appreciated film on here. The movie follows a bunch of pageant girls and their moms, which is practically a gold mine considering the success of reality shows with a similar concept. That’s why it’s no surprise that Janney is really funny here.
