Netflix premiered Parasyte: The Grey on Friday, April 5, 2024. Starring Jeon So-Nee as Jeong Su-In, the K-drama revolves around alien parasite organisms falling from the sky on Earth and attacking human brains.
The K-drama‘s first episode begins with the parasite larva attacking a man at a concert. Soon, his face transforms into a monster-like organism with tentacles killing people around him. The next scene introduces Su-In working at a meat store. At the check-out counter, she faces a rude customer who curses her. When she signs off her work, the man follows Su-In and attacks her.
Wounded, she tries to run but falls down, and then a parasite enters her brain. Later, it is revealed that the parasite had killed the attacker.
Parasyte: The Grey episode 1 spoilers: How did Jeon So-Nee learn about her mutant form?
When Su-In wakes up at the hospital in Parasyte: The Grey episode 1, she meets Detective Cheol-Min (Kwon Hae-Hyo). They know each other as he once saved her from her abusive father. At the hospital, she learns that she has no open wounds. Confused, Su-In tells the detective that the customer stabbed her multiple times.
Cheol-Min assumes that she doesn’t remember because of shock and asks her to rest. Meanwhile, Seoul Kang-Woo (Koo Kyo-Hwan), a man involved in shady business, is in hiding and takes shelter in his sister’s home. He finds her behavior strange and follows her when she walks outside her house in the middle of the night.
Kang-Woo witnesses his sister and a man cornering Su-In. They doubt whether she is their kin or not. To prove it, the two strangers bring out their mutant versions, leaving Kang-Hoo in shock. Su-In also transforms into her parasite form and asks them why they are here. They tell her to join them in their quest to control humans.
After they leave, Kang-Hoo tries to silently escape the scene, but Su-In finds him. She threatens him not to expose her and asks him to briefly explain her human version (known as the host) about the parasite. Kang-Hoo tries his best but leaves the host more confused.
At night, Su-In writes in her diary, “Is there really someone else in my body?” After taking a nap, she wakes up and sees that someone has written the answer. Using the same process, Su-In’s parasite explains everything to her and asks her to stay away from other parasites in human forms.
Parasyte: The Grey episode 1 ending: Lee Jung-Hyun explains the parasite situation to police and detectives
Aside from Su-In, Parasyte: The Grey episode 1 also features Lee Jung-Hyun. She is Team Grey Captain Choi Joon-Kyung from the Parasite Special Forces Unit. She has a huge team working to eradicate the parasite mutants.
Joon-Kyung invites a group of police officers and detectives, including Cheol-Min, to reveal the parasite attack story. At first, they struggle to believe the process of how parasites attack human brains and take control of the body. To demonstrate better, Joon-Kyung introduces her husband’s mutant version.
She explains that he has been attacked, and now he is a mutant. In the end, the Team Grey Captain becomes hyper and yells, “He’s been made into a monster! A plague that should be wiped off the face of the earth! Once transformed like this, they aren’t really human! They’re not human!” Simultaneously, Su-In is shown at an empty bus stop, trying to process all the information about her parasite. Episode 1 ends with her being overwhelmed by her situation.
