Vijay Sethupathi’s much-anticipated action-drama Maharaja is set to hit theaters tomorrow, June 14, 2024. Ahead of its official release, the makers arranged early screenings for prominent film critics and media personnel, whose reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. This suggests a potentially strong opening for the film at the box office.
Penned and directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, Maharaja promises intense action sequences and a compelling storyline. Alongside Vijay Sethupathi, the film features Anurag Kashyap, Abhirami, Mamta Mohandas, Bharathiraja, Munishkanth and others in pivotal roles.

Since the makers screened Maharaja, social media has been flooded with critics’ reviews. One of the film correspondents took to X (formerly Twitter) and gave Maharaja five-star ratings, titling it the Best Tamil Film of the Year.
He wrote, “Best Tamil film of the year, the best film of Vijay Sethupathi in recent times. The shock value that director Nithilan has delivered is truly monumental with a seamless screenplay connecting all the dots! What starts as off as a desi John Wick turns very hard-hitting with an unpredictable twist (again there is a comparable foreign film reference which I avoid for now). Nithilan provides yet another shocker climax superseding his debut film Korangu Bommai.”
Another entertainment Industry tacker rated Maharaja with a rating of 4.5/5. He wrote, “#Maharaja [4.5/5]: Rarely a movie gets both the cinematic presentation and content perfect. This is one of those rare movies. Vijay Sethupathi could not have asked a better movie than this for his 50th movie. He has done both class and mass.”
