After captivating audiences in 2005, the action thriller film Ghajini, starring Suriya, is all set to return to theaters. Following the re-release trend, the makers of Ghajini announced that the movie would be re-released within a week. This announcement has created a wave of excitement among Suriya’s fans.
Directed by A. R. Murugadoss, Ghajini was originally released on September 29, 2005, and received praise for its stellar performances. Initially released in Tamil, Allu Aravind later dubbed it in Telugu and released it in November 2005. Murugadoss also remade the film in Hindi, starring Aamir Khan in the lead role, with Asin, Pradeep Rawat, and Riyaz Khan reprising their roles. Ghajini 2005 drew inspiration from the films Memento (2000) and Happy Go Lovely (1951).
The story follows Sanjay Ramaswamy, who suffers from short-term memory loss after being hit with an iron rod. Unable to remember anything beyond fifteen minutes, he relentlessly searches for those responsible for his lover Kalpana’s murder.
When is Suriya’s Ghajini releasing?
Recently, a movie lover took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared that Suriya’s Ghajini would be rereleased in Kerala on June 7, 2024, along with a poster. According to the poster, the grand release will only mark the return of the movie to theaters in Kerala. Notably, the film is returning to theaters almost 19 years after its original release, allowing viewers to relive their experience. For those eager to watch it digitally, it is currently available on Sun NXT in Tamil with 2 hours and 7 minutes of runtime.
Aside from this, Suriya is currently gearing up for his upcoming film, Kanguva, directed by Siva. Initially announced under the tentative title Suriya 39, the film marks Suriya’s 39th lead role. The makers recently dropped a sizzling teaser featuring Bobby Deol as the antagonist and Suriya as the protagonist. However, the makers have not yet announced Kanguva’s release date.
As of now, Ghajini (2005) is set to return to theaters on June 7. It will be interesting to see its opening-day box office performance.
