Directed by B. Gopal, Indra – The Tiger was originally released on July 24, 2002, and achieved immense success. Made on a budget of $1.1 million, the film emerged as the highest grossing Telugu film at that time. The filmmakers also dubbed it in Hindi and remade it in Indian Bengali titled Dada in 2005 and Bangladeshi Bengali titled Goriber Dada in 2006. Moreover, the film won three state Nandi Awards and two Filmfare Awards South.
