Bramayugam Ending Explained: How Does Mammootty’s Horror Movie End?

Bramayugam has left cinephiles in awe of Rahul Sadasivan’s storytelling brilliance. The movie amazed the audience with its unique plot and scenes that gave the viewers a spine-chilling experience. While Mammootty‘s sinister character took the limelight, Arjun Ashokan and Sidharth Bharathan’s work is also being lauded.

The horror thriller Bramayugam has been completely shot in black and white. Director Rahul Sadasivan’s idea was to depict how the movie is a period film and is based in the 17th century. With the monochromatic theme, Bramayugam has rightly narrated the horror story and changed the scenario of Malayalam cinema. Its IMDb rating is a record-breaking 8.4 out of 10.

While the movie is running in the theaters, here is the complete story and an explained ending of Bramayugam.

How does Thevan arrive at the mysterious mansion?

Bramayugam is set against the backdrop of South Malabar in the 17th century. The movie begins with the introduction of Arjun Ashokan’s Thevan, who had just escaped from slavery. He also has a friend named Koran, who seemingly came from the same place as him. As the two look for a place in the forest to seek refuge, they decide to spend the night in the wild. At night, Thevan finds Koran enchanted by a beautiful woman who soon kills him. The next morning, a starving Thevan finds a huge mansion in the forest. As he arrives in front of the mansion, Mammootty’s Manakkal Kodumon Potti and his cook welcome him.

At this point, the movie throws light on the caste discrimination at that time. While Potti belongs to an upper Brahmin caste, Thevan is a folk singer from a lower caste. Despite the difference, Kodumon Potti welcomes Thevan to his home. When he sings a song for Potti, the latter offers him a place in his mansion. As he is directed to his room in the mansion, the cook warns Thevan not to wander around the mansion at night.

However, Thevan is intrigued by the warning, and at night, he feels as if the mansion has come alive. He hears the noise of shackles and feels the presence of more entities in the house. When he explores the outdoors, he realizes that there is a burial ground beside the house.

Is Thevan dead or alive?

A worried Thevan then decides to leave the house to go back to his mother. However, Kodumon Potti’s mysterious behavior does not feel right to him. When he goes to Potti, the latter tricks him into a game of Pakida and makes him gamble his freedom. Despite several attempts, Thevan fails to leave the house. He finally learns about the history of the Potti family and the fact that the real Kondumon Potti is dead. Instead, it is an evil entity Chaathan that has been impersonating Potti and ruling the house. ith the cook’s tactics, he and Thevan manage to bring out the Chaathan in his real form.

Further in Bramayugam, The cook steals the keys to the basement with the sanctum and extinguishes it. However, the entire house is lit on fire, and the cook and Thevan battle against each other. While the viewers believe the duo has defeated the Chaathan, it is later revealed that the Chaathan has now begun impersonating Thevan. Moreover, Thevan dies when the house is destroyed.

In conclusion, Bramayugam successfully sent chills down the viewers’ spines. The movie’s end is as horrific as Mammootty’s Kondumon Potti’s laugh and its entire story.
